Default largest tires on stock steel rims w/no lift

I'm not really considering a lift on my stock X but I want to put larger tires on the stock 16" steel rims.

What would be the largest that you would suggest?

I heard that the steel 16" rims are narrower than the optional rims that are offered. Is that an issue?

Thanks, I saw this already but it shows the largest tire on the 17" rim. I have the steel 16" rims.

So instead of a 33x10.5 R 17 it would be a 33x10.50 R 16.

In metric that works out to be something like 285/75R16.

I have 265x75Rx16 and they fit and look fine. I've heard 285 fit but I wouldn't go that tall with the standard gears.

So, do the math and get the same height/width tire in 16". Good lord.

My Unlimited came with the small 16" tires. Within 2 days I replaced them with 32" tires, 265/75R16, on the stock steel wheels. They fit fine with no rubbing.

If you have no wheel spacers or lift, stick with the 265/75R16.

If you have wheel spacers and a lift, go with 285/75/R16. I used to run this size on a 16X7 rim, which is the same size as yours.
