I've been running a 35 on my stock carrier for over a year and no issues, still wheel it regularly
just get some Daystar Tailgate Bump Stops $15 trim to fit so it fits tight against the body
as long as your spare is tight on the stock carrier (may need a spacer if running stock wheels) and don't catch it on obstacle wheeling you'll be fine until you get what you want.
