Default Larger Gas Tank

Ok so this is a serious question. I am planning on going on a cross country roadtrip this summer and wanted to know if it is possible to put a larger gas tank on my JK.

Is it possible?

Is it legal? Pass vehicle codes and smog?

Is it worth it? Would the added weight from the extra fuel make too big of a difference?

How hard would this be? Is it a DIY project from a moderately experienced mechanic?

I know its a lot of questions but Ive been pondering this thought for a while.

Thanks in advance guys

That looks like a great solution. Too bad i already have a bunch of other junk under that side of my JK. An extra 18 gallons would be a welcome addition.
