Offset is based off of rim width, and can be very confusing. You will probably want to find a converter online and convert the offset/width numbers to backspace, as it seems to be a whole lot easier to use. You could also open the two threads stuck right to the top of this modified area. Both give some information on wheel backspacing vs tire size.

Stock backspace is roughly 6.25". As that number goes down, the wheels/tires move out. So wheels with a 4.75" backspace would sit about 1.5" further out than stock on each side.

For pics - Hit the back arrow a time or two, then go down to JK Show & Tell. You will find a ton of threads dedicated to pretty much anything you can think of. Lift height, tire size, body color, combinations of them...

Offset tells you where the center of the wheel is in relation to the mounting surface. If you have a stock offset of +44.45 and you go to a -20 offset, the center of the tread will move out 66.45mm, roughly 2-5/8 inches. If you know the offset, you know where the center of the tread will sit, no matter what width the wheel is.
