In theory, the further you move your tire out from the end of the axle, the more strain you will have on the axle. In reality, you would have to move the wheels way out and run some monster tires to really cause significant strain on the axle. I personally don't have a problem with spacers.

Most people get 1.5" because it is widely available, and is the size that SpiderTrax sells. There was a thread not long about about finding some 2" spacers on ebay and running them. Do a quick search, you might get more info from it.

the only true downside to running 1.5" spacers is the fact that most tire shops wont balance and rotate you tires once you have installed spacers-they look at them as a liability.

Running proper hub-centric wheel spacers put no more stress on your axles than any aftermarket wheel with the same backspacing.

Spidertrax advertises their wheel spacers as both hub and lug-centric. Rough Country advertises theirs as "hub-centric design". Personally I'd like to know definitively if Rough Country's $60 wheel spacers are as safe as Spidertrax's $100 ones...

31k on my jeep with 1.5 spidertrax and my tire guy said it may not be good for the ball joints. He always takes care of me with no problem! Rotating and balancing

Only problem with spacers is they beat the door hinges with everything. 13k miles and needing to beeline them.
