Interesting, I have been relying on Superchips to come up with something so I haven't played around much with the other tunes with the exception of the 91 tune which also pinged. I will give the tow tune a try as well and see what happens.

Thanks for the info!

Im starting to wonder if superchips knows what they are doing. They have been given more than enough time to fix the problem. I have a been waiting for things to be fixed before I install my programmer, but I guess I should just forget about it.

I recently started experiencing pinging when I previously did not It only happens when I really gun the engine in the 87 tune. The gas saver tune is ping free.

Have you installed one of the tunes and had pinging issues? From what I can tell it's a very small percentage of people that have a problem and seems to depend on where you live (maybe the gas blend?). I run the 89 tune on 87 octane with zero pinging even when pulling my trailer under a fairly heavy load. I talked to Superchips when this thread started becuase I was afraid that if I updated my tuner I would get a tune with less advance but they said they would be adding a tune just for people with the problem. Anyway, it sucks that some people are having the problem but I love mine. I got an honest 1.5 MPG increase and definite seat of the pants difference. The shifting alone made it worth it. Just about everyone I run with has the FP and none of us have had any issues. Good luck with yours.

I just dont want to cause harm over 1.5 mpg. I dont want to add anything that can cause harm. I might use it to fix things like tires size, but thats it until I for sure that no harm is being done. Im open to others thoughts.

It could be that my engine is just jacked up... I had the shortblock and lifters replaced a new months ago, and now my lifters are making a racket, and in the mornings I think I hear rod knock for a minute or so when it's really cold out.

I wanted to be proactive with this so I am starting this thread to provide direction to those in need of assistance.

If anyone on the forum is currently experiencing pinging in their JK's while Superchips tuned we would like to hear about it. Please give customer service a call at 888-227-2447 to log a tech support trouble ticket so engineering can do some tracking on this.

Feel free to keep open communications with me as well. I am here to help!

Thanks for your continued support!

Scott
I am thinking of a super chip for my 2009 JK. Can you tell me how it works and do I gain more horse power. If you can sent a message direct to me that would be great.

The best improvement with the FP to me was the shifting improvement. The MPG is nice and the few extra HP was noticable the first couple of days. If it were me and I had the FP sitting there I would load the 87 octane tune and try it out. You will definitly hear it if it pings and you can put it right back to stock if it does. No harm done. Just my 2 cents.

I've now driven 1000 miles on 87 performance tune w/ 87 octane fuel.

No pinging yet, but I only fill up with Shell gasoline, seems to be the best around here in terms of quality and lack of additives.

I have nearly the exact same experience... except I use whatever brand of 87 fuel convenient.
