Hello everyone,

Picked up my used '07 Steel Blue Unlimited Sahara a week ago today. I owned a '95 Wrangler back in the day and always knew that I'd have another Jeep one day.

Here are a few specifics:

* Hardtop and softtop
* 18" OEM wheels with Bridgestone Duelers (brand new from an '10)
* Automatic
* 4WD
* 4.10 Rear Axle
* Dana 44 HD Rear Axle
* Dana 30 Solid Front
* Tow Package
* Infinity Sound System
* OEM Running Boards


So in my first week of ownership, I've done a few mods already and cannot stop reading posts on this forum I am also having a hard time going crazy on mods, but I have to do it in baby steps so the wife doesn't get too jealous.

Thus far I've purchased/completed the following mods:

* Quadratec liners throughout vehicle
* Black Jeep OEM Fuel Door
* Black Entry Guards Mopar
* Tow Hitch Jeep Plug
* Mopar Wheel Locks
* '08 Sahara Bumper (in transit - mine was clearly bumped a couple of times by the orig. owner)
* Drilled Mirrors

So I've been busy with some of the easy stuff and since the tires/wheels are new I'm going to hold off on new shoes. So, on a budget of $300, what other mods would you do to either prepare for going to 33's in the future, or enhance performance? Since my focus has been on cosmetic mods, I'm curious if a catback makes sense to pull the slowly rusting muffler or can I get away with a TF BB and it look okay on the stock 18's for now? Any other ideas?

The popular vote here seems to be for a Programmer (Superchips) over the Catback exhaust.

 

Well...if you're just looking for good mods, there's always the grille mod that everyone seems to love (including myself). Cheap, easy, and it looks fantastic!

Other than that, if all you want to do is make room for 33's, then you can just go with a Teraflex Leveling Kit, which runs about $120 over at Northridge 4x4. You can get between a 33-34" tire with that (see their website for the red Unlimited example they did).

That, and/or if you want performance upgrades, I'll agree with mjolnir in saying that the Superchips Flashpaq definitely seems to be a fan favorite here on the forums.

PERFORMANCE.

I saw a decrease in MPG's and very small if any, marginal to say the best, increase in power. I have the Aluminum MBRP Cat Back which cost me close to $300.00 and purchased the Drop in K & N air filter for $50.00.

(+10 people) I've been told that the Superchip Flashpaq was the best money spent after 35's and a lift kit. (BESIDES REGEARING)

(+3 people) And I've been told that the Superchip Flashpaq was money NOT spent well with basic/bone stock jeeps. " "

(1 person) And one person, has told me that the a stock JK benfited from the Superchip Flashpaq, enough to offset the steep price of $350.00... " "

I would go with the following:

- Grill mod ($10 @ homedepot for metal)
- Bedlined front grill ($10-20 for sand paper, adhesion promoter and bedliner-would look bad ass on a blue JK)
- $8 dash/ vent mod ($8 can of paint)

Then I'd go with a selection of the following:

- EVO gussets and lower control arm skids ($109 @ Northridge)
- EVO rear lower control arm skids ($49 @ Northridge)
- Front JKS track bar brace ($126 @ Northridge)
- Rear JKS track bar brace ($45 @ Northridge)
- TF levelling kit ($119 @ Northridge)

I'd get the gussets, skids and braces before the leveling kit. I know right away people are gonna say the gussets and braces are not needed, but I'm a firm believer in doing things right the first time. If you go out and play and are new to wheeling and get a little too "confident" I'd rather see your rig be reinforced against things like bending your axle C's or breaking off the poorly welded OEM track bar brackets.

Also if you were to have front lower control arm skids welded on I'd recommend looking at the write up found on project-jk.com. The write up advises you to have the inside of the front lower control arm bracket welded as from factory they are only welded along the top and outside edge I believe.

The great thing about getting the reinforcement mods outta the way is that when you have just enough $ to through a lift and bigger rubber on you rig you'll have done yourself a favor by doing what you could in advance to avoid mishaps like bent C's and broken bracket welds.

Superchips flashpaq, ALL THE WAY! an exhaust wont get you even close the chips gratification of your hard earned mula.

 

Might be a little over 300 but rails! A stock Jeep can do a lot and the rails will give you some great added protection.
