Default Jk front Dana 44 gear contact pattern

I’m in the process of regearing a front Dana 44 axle for my jk. I’m getting the following gear pattern. Can anyone provide some insight on to if this pattern is acceptable. If it is not does the pinion gear need to move closer or further away? By how much would you move it?

parts:
yukon 4.56 gears
arb rd157 locker

looks to me like you need more shim on the gear side of the carrier.

backlash is set around .009-.010.

do mind elaborating more since I have the backlash set in the correct range.

I was looking for a picture of a good pattern, hopefully this helps
Your pattern is close to the edge of the teeth, it should be more to the center

Alright after a couple more tries what does everyone think? I decreased the pinion depth shims .028” from the original post. Is this a better contact pattern? Backlash set at .006”

Not enough engagement or deep enough but you are getting it more centered on the tooth. Take a bit more shim out of the pinion and add shim to the ring side.

Okay. So you think that the pinion is still too deep? Does anyone know rough how thick the pinion shims should be? Right now I’m around.025” for the pinion shim thickness.

the housing is a Dana 44 hd with J8 tubes with Yukon gears.

does anyone know what the recommended distance is from the head of the pinion to the centerline of the carrier? I do have access to a pinion depth gauge.

Just a tad too deep, you are close but I don't think the gears are engaging enough, you are running on the edges of the ring gear.

cool. How much do you think would be a good move? .005 less? .010 less?
