If your cheap like me you can take out the carpet and use some spray on bedliner like i did.
Cost me about $40 and a couple of hours of work but no more worrying about the carpet or water/rust anymore!

I use Mopar's rubber liner, replaces the carpet. Works great, easy to clean, just wipe it down. Ebay has best $ on the mopar rubber liner kit.Click image for larger version

I just took the carpet out and use front floormats. I don't see a reason for anything else.

Pulled the carpet this past February and had the tub Line-X'ed with the premium black spray. A bit costly, but so worth it in peace of mind, looks, and ease of cleaning after getting dirty. The carpet is jammed in a box in my apartment for now.

Thanks for all the replies. I might check on that mopar rubber liner. Seems like a good option.
