Sounds like you're pretty new to the world of Jeeps and off-roading. We were all new at some point out lives. This stuff takes a little while to figure out.

The odds are extremely low that the previous owner switched out axles or the transfer case. Extremely. But do feel free to post pictures so we can tell you for sure. In the meantime, here's a diagram of the front suspension. I'd start here. Read these forums until you start to get an understanding of what each of these components does. Then see what was changed out for your Jeep's suspension lift. It was probably just springs and shocks. If it's a quality lift, then you might have aftermarket lower control arms and a new front track bar.

At a minimum, consider re-torquing all the suspension components on your Jeep, especially the front track bar. Torque specs are around here somewhere but I'm too lazy to go find them for you.
