Iv drove through some pretty deep water, and when I changed my diff fluid I didn't see any water. I don't stop in the water tho, I keep going which may keep the pressure up in the diffs and not allow water in. I dunno but Im not having any problems with the vents as they are now. I will change my diff fluid pretty regularly tho and keep an eye out for any changes.

The tube was capped by some sort of white plastic cap. My question is...does this white vent cap somehow keep water out of the vent tubes? Has anyone extended their vent tubes? What are people doing to keep water out of their axles?

My last four wheeler was a 2003 LR Disco and its vent tubes went up to the top of the fire wall in the front and the tail light in the back.
Hi Mike, you may already know this. The caps have a one way valves in them, they are designed to keep water out. They fail with age and for most folks that don't go in water often they'll last for years. I go through deep water often. I had a Toyota that the valve went bad. Water got into my axle, talk about a stink! The gear lube foamed out the breather tube. I learned from experienced Off Roaders to use AMSOIL gear lube because it will not mix with oil or lube. There are good kits that route your breathers up to the fire wall too. Good luck and thanks.

That's my plan. After my lift, my rear is hanging from the emergency brake cable bracket, way to low. I'm going to relocate it higher, just haven't done it yet, but it's not big deal, very, very simple.
Thats what I did there is a write up on how to do it if you search "extended breather hose with pictures" it should come up and show you exactly what to do. I ran mine up to the top of the engine for the front and behind the tail light in the rear... if I get into water that deep im going to have way bigger problems
