Default JK 2008 rear axle issue

Hi all,
Tried to find info about my problem without success.
I installed 4.88 gears and ARB RD117 (was recommended by ARB), while installing there was a need for lots of shimes, it looked odd to the mechanic. I drove the Jeep about 1000 miles and a noise occurred in the rear axle while cruising 60 mph (just touching the pedal), when raising the speed the noise disappeared. This became worst until I had to open the rear axle and change the ring and pinion. After the new installation, I drove again 1000 miles and again the noise appeared.
First installation was done in the USA and the second one in Israel (where I live).
I am sure something is wrong; maybe I should try the RD116?
Any ideas?
The rear axle is the stock DANA44.

Thanks,
Reuven

To troubleshoot. I would pull out the arb. And place the factory carrier back in. And see if it still makes noise. If it doesn't make any noise. That would point to the locker being bad or just not installed right. I have read that the arb does take more then a few shimes to get it right. So that might be normal to use alot of shims.

ARB site has the following info in the application chart:

JK Wrangler (not Rubicon models)
Model / Axle desc / shaft diameter / spline / Ratio Model ARB Part Number
2007 on / Dana 44 / 33.3 (1.31") / 30 / All RD1176,7

Therefore you have the correct part as they stated.

I think ARB is the best place to address your concern, and request technical advise or troubleshooting guide.

BTW there is a footnote that states

"Newer OEM Dana 35, Dana 44 & Chrysler 8.25" ring gears may have 3/8", 7/16", or 1/2" ring gear bolts.
Air Locker flange holes must be drilled or reamed larger to suit 7/16" or 1/2" bolts."

dont know how relevant this might be.

I am running an ARB RD117 in the stock 44 on my 08 Unlimited. It has not had any issues. I had a number of gear related issues when they were first installed, but it was due to a bent rear axle. The RD117 appears to the be the right part for 4.88's and a Dana 44 in an X or Sahara.

Default noies

is the noise when you let your foot off the pedal or when you give it more gas? when i regeared my pickup truck last year i had the crush collar on the pinion too tight and it whined when over 50 when i let off the gas. i loosed the pinion nut and it went away
