ID:	638237 I was wondering if anyone was having the same problem I am having, I have a 2012 JK with 40k miles on itI had a 08 and sold it make a pretty penny and purchased a 12 b.c of the new motor, spend some extra and ordered the Rippmods supercharger. CRAZY horsepower change. I have a front midsize bumper installed with brawler bar 12 inch light and winch installed. When driving around town and not going over 55 mph, my engine temperature does not creep above normal. Although when on a highway, and cruising around 60+ it starts to over heat, not to the point where I have to pull over but have to slow down, when it gets under 55 it will start to go back down. I am thinking that when I am around town my fans stay on and keeps temperature down. When i get on the highway they turn off and change to air to get to the radiator. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Ripp mods have told me they have never herd of anyone having this issue. Local mechanics have told me I have to much in front of my radiator and not enough air is getting to it. Winch is kind of big 10k lb but don't want to get rid of it and have to get a new bumper 500-750 dollars easy just to have the same problem come back again. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Really want to get this taken care of before it gets warmer out and the outside temperature make a bigger issue. I put pictures of it above so you can see what kind of bumper and winch I have on it.

When the engine gets too hot, the fan should come on whether the JK is going slow, or on the highway.

The problem is the disturbed air flow to the grill. It's not bad enough at slow speed to prevent the fan from drawing what it needs. At high speed, the air flow is disturbed enough that there isn't enough air between the disturbance and the grill. The fan can't draw enough air to remove the extra heat generated by driving at the higher speed. And if the fan doesn't come on, on the highway, the same applies to ram air through the grill. There just isn't enough of it to cool the water.

That's a lot of stuff blocking airflow to your radiator:
* Aftermarket grill with smaller openings - blocks top of radiator.
* Big winch - blocks bottom of radiator.
* The light bar, and the tubing it is mounted to - blocks middle of radiator (and intercooler).
* Intercooler - reduces flow to middle of radiator.

It's almost like you're trying to make your Jeep overheat.

You seem to have plenty of aux lighting. If I were you, I would re-install the stock grill and ditch the light bar up front. I bet that would solve your problems.

Agree with UselessPickles: grill alone cuts about 1/4 airflow. Lights and winch cover up the rest. Not much air flowing over the radiator and the fan can't compensate.

Default Could be

I know that some guys have had issues if the cooling system has been opened and not properly bled. Don't know if this was done on your jeep but it cannot hurt to check.

See the attached.

Buy a new bumper with a sunk mount winch location. Remote mount the solenoid. Remove unnecessary aux lighting from bumper (put driving lights as fogs if really needed) and I bet most of your woes would be gone.

Also look at replacing the air dam in some way so air flows through the radiator instead of up into the engine from the bottom.

Many 2012's had casting sand in the cooling system. Check the warranty history to see if yours had that issue. It could be that the system was not bled properly or your coolant is not at the right ratio of water/coolant.

Although you do have a lot of stuff blocking your grill, it's not much different than many other owners with the exception of your intercooler blocking it even more.

Do the cheap/ free things first before you start changing stuff.

Default LOD Mid Width Signature series

I have the sunk in Winch bumper. I actually did a lot or looking on the web for built in winch bumpers. But there are Cons to having it sunk in. If your bumper is in mud you have to dig it out. Top mounted winches give you an extra 6" or more. I honestly think its something else though. Lots of people on here are running Ripp with no problems.

IMO, I would dich the angry grill and get a hood louver like the Poison Spider one. The grill is blocking all of the flow that is disturbed from the winch and light bar, and sending it over the grill. The hood louver is designed to dissipate heat at low speed(crawling), but I think if you opened up the size of the grill, hot air rises, so it should help some more air flow through the engine bay, and help the cooling system do it's job. Do you know what the exact temperature it was getting to on the highway?

Take the winch off (and possibly the bumper or try your OEM grill) and drive it to see if it helps. Making horsepower creates heat, making lots of horsepower creates lots of heat. It doesn't look like you have nearly the heat rejection capability you need especially if you increased horsepower by 20% or more. I don't think that 55 mph means anything except above that speed, in your specific case, that the hp requirements to push a brick through resistance create enough waste heat that it becomes greater than what you can offload to the passing ambient air.

You don't need to buy new stuff until you prove that those parts are part of the problem.

I didn't notice the cooler, but you may also think of re-locating it, protecting it, and giving it its own draw through fan.
