Yep, that's exactly what happens with the sand, it's almost a chatter as the front end is jumping up and down.

You mentioned that you put on new shocks, though they were for a CJ. Are they perhaps too lightweight to handle keeping the tires in contact with the ground when under power like that? I imagine if you're tire pressure is right then the next thing would be the shocks. I don't see any reason it would be suspension angles, tie rod, etc. This is suspension as it relates to putting the power down.

I agree it is suspension related and I am also thinking its shock or spring issue. Have you had this issue in sand before? And yes these were a new set of shocks I had for a cj-7. I made an upper adaptor and used them just to see if it made a difference. I don't know how the Teraflex shocks are valved so I cant say if these are firmer or not. I know they were made for a CJ-7 with a v8 and a winch but a leaf spring front suspension.

I am going to contact a shock company tomorrow and see what they think. I just hate to spend a boatload on new shocks and find out I have the same issue.

Thanks!

As others have already said - I go with sand or snow does it. Every 4WD/AWD I have owned does the same in snow. Never a problem on rocks or in muddy hills.

Honestly- I couldn't tell you for certain what conditions (in the sand) it occurred with me. I've been through numerous sets of shocks and tire pressures and living at the beach for 10 years, it would be an understatement to say I've been a few times.

Thats normal? If thats the case I'm not impressed. Someone has had to figure out how to minimize this problem.

There is a solution, run tires that don't loose traction.

Or better yet engineer a front suspension that doesn't hop in the smallest amount of snow or sand. Like thousands of other vehicles have.

There is a spot in the road where we used to go dove hunting that was real fine sand, what I call sugar sand, my 78 Chev hopped, my 92 Chev hopped, 2003 Chev hopped, and 18 jk hops, not as bad as the others, probably cause it's shorter wheelbase, even walking through that stuff when it was dry wasn't fun.
not saying it's normal for you and your driving, but there are spots that just cause vehicles to do that

Or install tracks on the Jeep!! They don't shudder. It occurs under certain conditions on any vehicle with rubber inflated tires except perhaps quads etc.
