Default Installing new Front upper and lower control Arms

Hi. I just bought the Teraflex front lower and upper control arms.

I looked at the project-jk write-ups and realised I have to cut the bolt securing the upper control arm at the frame mount on the passenger side.
In the write-up they replace the bolt with a grade 8.

I live in a remote community with only one little hardware store(Northern Quebec 700 miles north of Montreal) and the only 1/2'' x 3'' bolts and lock nuts I can find here are grade 5.

Do you guys know if a grade 5 will do the job or it really needs to be a grade 8?

Thanks

I didn't take any chance and ordered the original bolt from the dealership.

I used a grade 8 bolt however the bolt was a standard size vs metric for the OEM bolt. Since I was adjusting the arms a bit and I got tired of switching sockets, I ordered a factory replacement. It was like $8.00 though.. for a bolt.

You can reuse your flagnut though, so you don't need to order that.

it's good that you ordered a new bolt but i you drill out the hole with a 1/2" bit, you can use a 1/2" grade 8 bolt as well. a lot of kits advise that you do just that.

I can't find Grade 8 bolts where I live only grade 5. I would have to ask someone from Montreal to drive around and try to find one. it was much easier to just order the factory bolt and get my friend to pick it up and send it to me by mail

The joy of living in a remote community only accessible by air or sea I have to plan far ahead before doing anything on my JK because there is no car shop or dealership and just a really small hardware store with very limited hardware to choose from. Everything needs to be shipped up from Montreal and it can take 1-2 weeks before you get what you need.

On the other hand people are very friendly and like to help each other. I work as an air traffic specialist (FSS for the pilots) and I have access to the airport maintenance garage with a lift and the airport mechanic drives a modified TJ

By the way this forum is great. You can find all the infos you need and fast!

Thanks a lot !
