The radio is a generic POS! It is about as good as Boss, Power Teknique, or whatever. It is a piece of garbage. Everybody do yourself a favor and avoid this hunk of junk. Those that do buy it, bookmark this post so you can agree with me after you wasted your money and come to terms with it. Lol.
The only thing "insane" abut it, other than the name, is the fact that they think someone would WANT IT!
The cheapest Kenwood, Pioneer, JVC, or Sony with NAV is far superior to this radio. Sound quality, reliability, updatability, customer support, aftermarket support...you name it, this radio lacks it.

I have no idea why you would even think of making the above comments on customer/aftermarket support, it says to me you are not speaking from any real world experience. None of the companies you mention above would consider have their lead tech ring them at home after work hours to spend time diagnosing an issue. I had two:
1) While installing my front rubicam, I surged the unit and accidentally erased my nav sd card, they happily sent me a new one immediately.
2) I installed an app killer which was not compatible and stopped several key processes, their head tech rang me after hours so he could walk me through recovery.
So...please don't post comments which have no basis in fact. If you don't like the unit for some valid reason, just say so...but really unfair to complain about one of the things which set this company apart. (and no, I have no affiliation, just get tired of seeing people bash things for no real reason - I support US company start-ups).
I have several installed pics as asked, I should post a few more showing the torque app:

I own it and I don't agree with you. I'll admit I'm not looking for audiophile sound in my JK, as that quality of sound system just doesn't jibe with hard offroad use IMHO, but, I do like listening to my tunes before and after the trail...I love having my music on a micro sd card to play easily, and I enjoy playing around with the various apps. The nav is much better than the high priced unit which came in my wife's car and very easy to customize. The included OBD2 plug and torque app make great info available to you...and one of the best parts, it's plug and play and fits like stock with zero mods necessary.

I've been keeping an eye on this product for a while... since it appears to be quite new, there is little to no information out there on the web. It's good to see someone on a forum who actually owns one so thanks in advance for your feedback.
The biggest thing for me is having Android in your Jeep which seems like the Holy Grail but my question is... is this a fully unlocked version of Android? Can you install ANY app? (i.e. from the Google Play store?) I've seen things like Parrot's Asteroid in a friend's car and they need to go to the Asteroid market which severely limits your options in terms of apps. So.. if I wanted to.. can I install Amazon Prime and watch movies in my Jeep? Spotify? Pandora? NetFlicks?
That leads me to my next question... do you need to get a lockpick or anything like that to watch movies while driving? Has anyone figured this out yet or are you basically restricted to just doing this while parked like on the factory system?
You mention "front rubicam"... how does that work? Did you install a camera on your front bumper but wire it up through the unit's rearview camera input?
Can you elaborate a bit more on the nav? The ads say "3D Topography" and "trail maps". Have you used the nav offroad yet?
Sorry for all the questions... I've been looking at this for a while and it's a huge help having someone out there who actually owns the unit. Thanks in advance for your help.
...and for the record, I AM a bit of an audiophile and I DO wheel my Jeep hard. One of the main reasons this unit appeals to me is unlike my crappy factory system, it's got pre-amp outputs. I plan on using my own aftermarket setup with a separate amp for my sub enclosure (that I'll be custom building behind the rear seats) and another for my mains. This unit to me is basically just an audio source which is exactly what I want. Android in my rig would be just plain awesome...

You got me!!!! Yep. I have never, and WOULD NEVER, own that POS. I have installed them though. It's what I do for a living. Been installing custom audio for 27 years.
Yes. Eventually you owners will agree with me. Hah. In time. I know THAT FOR A FACT.

Again. This is my personal experiences. Yours, hopefully, may be different. Maybe if you baby it and don't touch the screen too hard it might last. I don't know. I install them, send them on their way. Then they come back with failures. Maybe my customers are rough on them don't know. I do know I've had one Kenwood fail in the last three years, no Pioneers have failed, no JVCs have failed. One Somy nav card issue. But almost every "custom fit" nav HU has come back. I have quit selling them. I will install them. Labor is good. And non-refundable. It also pays to remove and re-install them. So sometimes it pays triple. Just don't like losing my money on shipping them back-n-forth.
That's all for my "fact" and "hands-on" experiences with the products.

Did you have customers return an Insane Audio head unit? If so, can you provide specific examples? What was wrong with them?
Please understand that I'm literally about to pull the trigger on buying one of these things... and while I respect your opinion, I really want to separate fact from fiction.
I have never seen one of the Insane Audio units in person so I can't speak to the quality. It might be a complete POS as you suggest or it may be the best thing ever made for a JK. Everything I've read about these units, however, seems to suggest the latter. What I CAN speak to, however, is technology... and the fact of the matter is that each and every brand you site (Alpine, Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer) are at least a decade behind the curve when it comes to technology in their head units. They have their own proprietary operating system, ancient technology, and try to band aid it by using "mirror link" or some other means to piggy back on a smartphone. They do this because they simply don't have the CPU, Memory or system architecture to support a modern multitasking operating system... so they are confined to continue to use their own embedded system. Android in a head unit is the future and opens up a world of opportunity for the end user. It's not only way more functional and customizable... but just plain cool.
That being said, of course... I'm a huge Alpine fan when it comes to sound quality. In fact, I'm probably going to use their marine amps and speakers in my rig. They're great at amps. They're great at speakers. No way I'd want their head unit in my rig. If I don't end up buying the Insane Audio unit, plan b for me would be to modify my dash to house an Android tablet. Really leaning towards the Insane unit, though...
