Default Inner Tire Wear

About 4,000 miles ago I started noticing the inside lugs of my duratracs on the front axle were feathering. It confused me because this is a solid axle and that we didn't have to deal with that bs...

2007 Unlimited Sahara with 111,000 miles on it
2.5 Teraflex coil lift plus 3/4" daystar spacer in the front
315/70/17 Goodyear Duratracs on Method Wheels
Rotate tires every 5k
Toe In: 1/16th

Tires have 36,000 miles on them. What would cause this to suddenly start happening?

My natural instinct says it needs to be aligned... but the only thing you can align is the toe which is ok so wtf over...

Ball joints. When was the last time they were replaced. When they wear, the camber will be off some. Just a thought. Without seeing the Jeep it is hard to say.

Too much caster causes the tire to lay over hard when turning. Lots of caster gives you good stable handling (with proper toe in) but can cause improper wear and poor turning radius.

Could be bad ball joints too, or a combination of those. Could have slightly bent Cs to top it all off.

All of these things are common to themselves and I imagine in combination as well.

Also check the tire pressure they may be over or under the correct psi. There are a few threads on the forum on how to check that. I'd start there.

Ball joints never been done. I didn't check the ball joints with a micrometer but I did look for play and it looked like the typical .050"... But I guess I need to actually measure them.

Tire pressure 35-36psi all around. They hold 50 psi max.
I suppose I could do a chalk test

Get your alignment scanned. Excessive toe in will cause this issue.

Between all of the suggestions above you will be sure to find the issue. PM us if you need any technical advice.

Check your toe in,sounds more like ball joints.Caster has nothing to do with it

Caster can have everything to do with it. The more caster, the more your tires "lay over" when you turn. If you have excessive caster and toe in, then it would cause this issue too. Or just the caster and wear from turning.

Think of it like this, if you had 90 degrees of caster, the tires would just camber side to side pivoting on the ball joints.

That is correct about caster. Just like he is saying. It is affected when turning. With zero caster the outside will wear more in hard cornering but with excessive caster the inside will wear more. However with the mileage the op stated, I would suspect ball joints or slightly bent upper C's. If there is just enough wear to begin to notice it, either of these issues could go unnoticed.
