I can't imagine that can be. The sound is like a static radio. It almost sounds like smooth metal on smooth metal. No grinding or clunking. It is enough to hear inside with the windows up. Has anyone else heard of this?

The guys at the shop seem to think it is normal.
When the gears r low on oil you can hear them chattering as metal is making contact on metal without the oil.

Hmm, the noise your desribing may be coming from the dust cover on the pinion flange. Did you get new yolks and driveshafts, or you still with stockers?

Stockers. thanks for the help.

I am looking at some images on google. Is this something that I would be able to see? or possibly fix?

Actually, you could put it up on jack stands, or have them put it on a lift. Crank it up , put it in drive and try to find the location of the noise. Careful if do this yourself, make sure the front wheels are chocked, it's not in 4wd, and you have a person in the driver seat to control gas and brakes. As others have said, you should have no noise with a new gear install. Does the noise seem to be coming from the rear or transfercase area?

It is coming from the rear transfer case area. Hard to pinpoint. when I picked it up yesterday, I actually turned right around and brought it back. They did just what you suggested. They picked it up in the rear and as they picked up speed the noise was easy to hear. They just told me that it was normal. I even told them, "there is no way that is normal". He said, 5.13 gears always make noise.

But to me, it does not sound like anything mechanical. It sounds like something is rubbing.

Any suggestions? Especially when the shop keeps telling me everything is fine.

Hmm, you have 4dr and I highly doubt your stock rear ds cv joint is messed up. If it seems to be coming from that area, do you know if they completely removed your rear ds for the gear install? I really doubt they did , unless they didn't feel like tying it up to keep it out the way, but I'd ask them anyway if they took it completely off. Still, doing that wouldn't have affected the dust cover on the flange. So, I'm at abit of a loss as to why you have a noise there. Unless that upper rzzeppa cv joint is prematurely starting to go. Just as a precaution I'd check the oil level in the tcase.

Would not have made the 750 mile trip without the new gears. They still make noise, and I plan to replace the fluid this week. See if that works.
