i want to run 35's but can the 3.73's handle it?
i got a 2dr 09 wrangler X and i want to do a 4" lift and 35's. i have 3.73 gears and a buddy of mine has 4.10's. he said that his is fine but he has a rubicon unlimited so its going to be sluggish. i dont plan on climbing mountains.. im just doing some minor mudding and trail riding. nothing extreme. will my jeep handle it? im looking at the rough country lift for $500. not the one with the control arms. is that a good one?

Do your research before you settle on a lift. Especially the RC. See what people say about their lifts. Tereflex comes up a lot as a real good lift. I hear 3.73 can handle 35's but people generally hate the ride because it takes a lot of power to turn them especially on hwy and hills. I'm looking to regear to 5.13's when I get my 35's put on.

Here's a gear chart I put together. With a 6 speed you are at the edge of what's considered to be an acceptable range. You'll definitely want gears eventually, but it's not an absolute like it would be with an automatic.
I'm running the same thing currently and as soon as I did the 35s I felt there was good opportunity to go to 37s so I held off. A lot of other expenses to be incurred with 37s and just waiting to wear out the rubber.

I believe WOL is or was running 3.73's in Lil Nemo with 35's. I believe he said it wasn't all that bad. It's not gonna be great, but you can do it. If you have an auto forget about overdrive though, unless your going downhill. I kept my OD turned off when running 35's and 4.10's. Edit; saw on your profile you have a manual, you'll fair better than the auto's.

i dont have enough money to regear yet.. what would you guys recommend? i saw a ton of lifts all sizes from 1.75" to 4.5" and they all run 35's. i dont really see how..? whats the difference? and should i drop the tire size down a bit? i like the stance of 4" with 35's but it may be a little to hard on my jeep.

I have 35's and 4.1s and I feel like I'm "compromising". I just installed an aux trans cooler since I won't be regaring any time soon. Around town it's fine, but on the freeway it's just ok, and in the moutains it embarassing. So you can "deal" with your 3.7s but you'll want want something better. It all depends on dollars and time.

You can handle 35s
I have 3.21 gears in mine with a six speed and 33" (295/75/16) tires. It runs fine. Speed limits around here on the freeway are 65MPH and I cruise it in 6th gear every day going to work. If I need to pass someone, I will downshift to 5th and get my power back. With a 4 1/2 to one ratio in first gear it comes off the line fine. Better than my 2006 SSR with 3.73 gears and a 3 something to one first gear and 400 HP LS2. Don't get me wrong, I WISH I had lower gears, but it works fine. I will probably regear some day when I get some money.
Now the good news. With your 3.73 gears and 35" tires, you will be turning more RPMs than I do at the same speed. Just look at the posted RPM chart above that someone posted. So you will be even better off than me.
Go for a 2 1/2" suspension lift and a 1" body lift. Then slap on some 35 inchers. If you come into some dough some day, regear. If not, just learn to downshift when needed.
