if you have an automatic you should look into 4:56 or 4:88 for an automatic i think 4:10 might be alittle high but for a manual it should be good

Since you have a manual, I'd suggest you just grab a Flashpaq and wait on gears until you decide to move up to 35's.

But, since it sounds like you are comfortable with doing it yourself, shouldn't be too hard to find some 4.10 take-offs from somebody that upgraded. Last I saw, the new carrier for 3.73+'s is around $80.

Been talking to some local shops about lockers lately. Both shops like OX better than arb's. And apparently you now have a choice of cable, electric or air actuation for them. The other one they had good opinions of was the Yukon/Randy's Zip locker, stronger components and less money than the arb.

Still tossing it around, but think I'm going to leave the 30 open and just upgrade to a locked 44 at some point...

Welcome to the forum! I'm getting my rubi re-geared up @ northridge4x4 in WA next month. I'll be coming home with some hand-me-down 4.10's if you're interested. I wont really have a use for them once the 5.13's are in. They've never been thrashed & logged 25k miles with no issues. -I'm not trying to sell them, you can have them-

Will your rubi D44 4.10's fit in his non-rubi D30? ...

Not sure I haven't researched what will/won't fit in a D30

They wont. A JK D30 requires JK D30 gears. The rears should work fine though. Although the carrier will not work, just the R&P. The carrier is splined for the Rubi 32 spline axles. X's have 30 spline rears.

As for what gears to run with 33's, 4.10's would be perfect. 4.28's would be a bit better witha n auto, but they are not available for JK's. 4.56's would be a bit low if you ever drove on the freeway. 4.88's would make your rig useless for anything over 50mph with only 33's.

With 4.56s, 33s, on a 6 speed at 70 mph, you'd be running the same rpm I do with 37s and 5.13s at 70 mph. At 60-65 mph, I get over 20 mpg.
I am still unsure how anyone interested in gear rations manages to avoid stumbling over this chart which is referred to so often and which contains all of the FACTS required.

And I was happy because I get 15.5 MPG at 80-85 MPH. I can't get to 20 MPG unless I coast down hill.

Because of where you live and probably being able to hit some higher elevations with a relatively short drive, I would run with a minimum of 4.56s. 4.88s might be a bit steep until you move to 33s, but they'll also cover you adequately all the way up to 37s.

Myself, I wouldn't want to do it twice and would opt for the 4.88s unless I was dead sure I wasn't ever going to see 35s. I also think it's a great disservice that the local dealer would let any vehicle walk off the lot with less than 3.73s. In that neck of the woods it makes no sense, unless it's going to be a grocery getter that isn't going to leave the city.
