How safe are wheel spacers?
#21
I really like my Spidertrax 1.5" spacers! They help retain my factory Moab wheels which in my opinion looks the best. You paid for them, you might as well use them.
I ran into the same issue at Discount tire. I wanted to purchase the 34 inch Goodyear MTR's from them and they said they wouldn't mount them with the wheel spacers that I hadn't put on yet. I took my chances and had them install the new 34 inch tires without the spacers and proceeded to install them at home. I'll just have them balanced at the local 4x4 shop.
My Jeep is both my daily driver and my offroad toy. I've had the wheel spacers for 3 months and 3000 miles with no issues so far.

I ran them with my Teraflex lift and did not even really need them but they made the tires look bigger with the wider stance. I eventually sold them and got wheels backspaced at 5.75 or 25MM offset to just get rid of the need for tightening them. Which by the way they never got loose.

I just took all five wheels to Discount Tire in the back of my pickup. They mounted and balanced KM2s, put 'em back in my pickup, and I took them home and put the wheels and tires on my JK myself. I'm not sure what they would do if I ever go in there for a rotation or rebalance with the spacers on...

... and, from what I've read here (and it makes sense), as long as you get the kind that bolt to your axle, then utilize new studs to bolt the wheel to the spacer.
GOOD
DO NOT...
I REPEAT...
DO NOT use the kind that simple occupy space between your wheel and the mounting surface. That's the kind of spacer that can be (potentially) dangerous.
