How to remove emergency brake cable on axle?
I'm trying to swap my axles, but I'm unsure of how to get the emergency brake line off of the axle. What is the easiest way to get the hook off the end of the cable and also get the "expansion nut" (the silver piece at the end of the rubber hose that holds it into the first cutout)? Also, once it's out, what's the best way to get it back onto the axle?

There's alot of spongy slack in the each cable. Get a big pair of pliars and pull the hook and with your other hand get ready to pull the cable housing off the retaining bracket. Get the hook off of the axle then pull. Quite a bit of cable will come out. Let go and quickly pull the cable cover oof of the bracket.
Its actually fairly easy.

I guess the first thing to clarify is, are you talking about swapping axle shafts (which I've got lots of practice at) or swapping the entire axle assembly (which I've got no practice at)?? If you're swapping rear axle shafts alone there's NO reason to disco the E-brake connection (although the manual says to do it). Ya can swap both shafts in under 30 minutes. If you're changing an axle assembly (ie going from a D-44 to a D-60) I can't help.
