How much arguing did do with the tire shop?
Hey all,
So this is going to be another thread related to DuraTrac's, but one I haven't seen one like this yet.
I have a stock 2011 JKU Sahara with about 52,000 mi on the stock Dueler AT/s
I researched, and searched, and looked at measurements, pictures, anecdotes about minor rubbing and decided I wanted a slightly more aggressive 33" Duratrac, since RF field engineering demands some sketchy "roads" at times, especially during winter.
So last week I ordered a set of 275/70R18 DuraTracs to the local Sam's Club, I went in to have them installed today. Soon after they drove my jeep into the shop all five techs gathered around in a heated argument. The first tech(Short with mustache) basically started yelling at me saying that I would need a 4"-5" lift etc to make those fit or they would tear my suspension apart, and that these tires were twice the weight of what I had, etc (they wouldn't and they weren't I don't think, but I just nodded at the guy, respect your elders etc...)
The second tech rolled one of the new tires along side my jeep's current tire so we could look at them side by side. While the 275/70R18 GY-DT did look more substantial next to the 255/70R18 BFG D-A/T. Everything I read, heard, or saw led me to believe that they would fit. It was at this point that the second tech said that If I came back tomorrow morning at 7AM he would mount the 275/70R18 for me while Tech #1 wasn't there, but he wanted me to double check my numbers.
Back inside, they pulled the book and said the biggest tire they would put on is a 275/65R18 duratracs (which is basically the same size as a 255/70R18). I folded to their suggestion and they refunded my payment then placed an order for 275/65R18.
NOW, I could:
1- Wait a week and get the 275/65R18 put on
2- Go back to the Sam's Club TOMORROW at 7AM and have them reverse the order change and put on the 275/70R18s on anyway (since they have 5 brand new ones just sitting in store now)
After everything I read, the consensus is that at worst I would experience some rubbing at full lock unless I remove or trim the air dam/adjust the steering stops/ add spacers.
I think I buckled under pressure in the store to adhere to their book of tire sizes, but now I am regretting not doing exactly what I wanted to do.
Duratracs: 33" or to 32" That is the question.

I would wait and get 35s, once you get 33s you'll soon want 35s.
Btw here's a picture of 285/70r17 duratracs with stock suspension. Basically 33s.
