Default How do you protect the tire when painting the rim?

Did several searches but nothing came up. Only found the post-results. Thanks!

I've seen people tape it up and one guy took a deck of cards and wedged it in the rim all the way around. Both work.

I've heard and seen this method of using a deck of cards on multiple applications with ATV wheels and it works surprisingly well. Just tape up everything really well and you should be fine.

Thanks! Problem is the tape does not stick to the tire. :-(

I thought about getting a narrow aluminum strip at Home Depot. Should work similar as the cards?

Thanks much! I used the idea of the cards deck and made a template with a thin cardboard I had laying around. (believe it or not I do not have a deck of cards at home)

It matches the rim diameter and I just tuck it between rim and tire.

It's working fine so far. ;-)

Cheers!

Worked great! Today I primed them and tomorrow will paint. Low temperature is making the paint take its time to dry.
Thanks!

Use a thick coat of cheap wheel bearing grease.

That's what we used to do. Smear grease on the tire.

Are you using any special type of paint and is it necessary to sand them.
