I skipped the crush cans and so did lots of other people. I couldn't see how two 3" ultralight "cans" were going to make any difference whatsoever tucked behind a 100 lb. bumper that's bolted to the vehicle in about 10 different places, but to each his own. I guess if you do the cans you can change the 2 rating to a 3 or 4. My winch is my crush can. I didn't have to make any cuts to accomodate my winch as some suggest.

If you go with ARB think about upgrading at least your front coils as it's a heavy SOB and if you add a winch you're talking about 180-200 lb's added to your front end. Stubbies are a nice way around this.
Heavy? The ARB weighs less than 100lbs. It's the lightest bumper when compared to other full size and mid width bumpers.

With the lift kit I had at the time of the bumper install with the winch my JK stayed level, but did lose a inch.

I have seen this bumper on a non lifted JK and it sags badly in the front.

I know if I get the bumper first there's no way I can wait for a winch to come, but I really don't want to do the install twice.

I haven't been able to find a post anywhere that answered if you can install a winch in this thing after it's mounted. Thanks
I just installed the ARB bumper and the warn powerplan and had no issues installing the winch after the bumper was mounted, though its a bit of a tight fit. I did have to trim the bumper bracket on the frame rail a bit to clear the winch. The instructuions for the bumper do list where to trim the bracket to clearance the winch.

I installed the ARB bumper back about 3-4 weeks ago. I think the most crucial parts of the install were: 1. Sorting out all the the bolts to figure which goes where. In the instructions ARB should put an actual size photo of each bolt or nut required for each step of the installation. 2. Cutting out the crush cans from the stock metal backing plate took a bit of time. I used an air driven cut-off wheel. Electric tools might be a bit quicker. Make sure when you mount the bumper you have secured the crush cans to the bumper with some type of adhesive so that it does not wallow around when installing against the vehicle frame otherwise your holes will be off creating a PITA. In retrospect the crush cans are really not that necessary and I'm not sure I would have bothered with this step if I did it again. 3. I would not go through all the hassle of installing the turn signal relays. I just tapped the side lights into the markers, decreased the wattage in the bulbs to a 5W bulb as not to melt the lenses and called it a day. 4. Don't bother notching the frame as per the instructions unless you are going to get a really large winch like the power plant. Also don"t install the winch until after the bumper is secured to the frame that way you won't be heaving more weight when installing the bumper (large winches may have to be installed prior?) I installed a Smittybilt XRC 10 after the bumper was mounted and there was plenty of room to fit it in. In the end the install is not really mechanically difficult, I think just a bit time consuming. Relax, pay attention to what your doing, and have fun. Then you can look at your jeep and take pride in knowing you have done it yourself I also have to say the quality and customer service at ARB are top notch

Here's a thought with regard to not installing the crush cans ... expanding foam insulation used to fill the void under the covers (instead of the crush cans) and hold / protect the shape of the covers. I was kind of proud of myself for coming up with that idea - it might be just as effective as crush cans for energy absorbtion as well! I even sealed out the elements on the bull bar with the foam as well ... very easy and quite effective. Be sure to call Northridge if you are thinking about buying one of these bumpers - David was great with me !

Plus he'll hook you up with a price + winch and Warn is offering a $100 rebate on winches purchased in May. Just saw this deal today on another thread, but just in case you missed it. Wish I didn't buy my winch three weeks ago!
