Just some advice if you go with a kit for your train horns, throw away the cheap air line that comes in the kit, and go down to the Big Rig Parts house in your area and buy air brake grade air line and you will save a lot of headaches along they way. My air lines never leak down, and are durable and don't crack in freezing weather. And I also installed an air chuck fitting piggy backed on a 1/2" ball valve (so I can isolate it) and it gives me endless air supply to run an impact wrench and air up as many tires as needed. The slim aluminum tanks mount up inside the frame rails and are out of harms way, yet easily accessible. When you are out in the boonies, you are very happy to have it.
There are several ways you can go for an air compressor. Several people sell them, if you buy a kit it comes in the package. But if you want to poor boy it, an early model Caddy air ride compressor works great and isn't a big draw on the batteries, and will mount just about anywhere. Go to a wrecking yard and they are mounted on the drivers side fender, under the hood. three 3/8" bolts and unplug it from the harness, cut the air supply line and it's off in 5 minutes, usually will cost you 10-20 bucks at the pick a part.
