Hood vents
Is it worth cutting up your hood for hood vents? I am referring to the ones made by posion spyder and synergy in particular. It gets really hot down here. I haven't had a problem yet but heat can cause problems over time. Also what problems might it cause with rain or water coming in?

I personally do not have done, but have heard mixed feelings about it. Water getting in after rain/wash and caused corrosion and fan belt making squealing sounds. I believe there is a thread on it.

Yes. When my fan does kick on it cools faster. My under hood air intake temps stay a bit cooler which seems to make the jeep run better.
I monitor them with the Torque app.
Water has never been a issue. Leaks a little but has never bothered anything.
Have had mine a year and a half. I spray my motor down at the car wash anyways.
I also added a 6.5 inch fan blowing out of one of mine to push heat out.

I did the PS hood louver. Don't know how much it helps but, it looks great! After driving you can see the heat waves rising out while parked. We've had some real gully washers here lately and I covered the louvers at first. Then I thought, "can't do this forever". Left it uncovered and checked after some rain and there were some small wet spots here and there but, nothing to be concerned about. If you should do the PS louver use good sharp drill bits to drill the holes for the bolts. The hood is very thin and it doesn't take much to cause a dimple. And...Do not over tighten the bolts.

I agree with the insignificance of water damage. The small amount that gets in can't be bad, I mean, we blast through mud and water crossings and that dumps a butt-load more water than will ever come in through the vents in a rainstorm. I did custom louvers by just cutting out the entire center of the hood, from front to back and from side to side. Then I bought some 16 gauge steel, took it to a buddy who has a louver machine and made a bunch of louvers, in rows, that total about 36 I believe. Installed it with stainless rivets every inch around the perimeter and it works great. Dumps tons of heat out. I love it.

Hood Louver
Installed a Poison Spyder hood louver about 2 weeks ago. So far so good, I love the look and the amount of heat coming out of the hood is amazing. I can't believe I didn't do this sooner. I was a little apprehensive about cutting into my hood and the amount of water that may come in to the top of my hood, but I didn't cut the whole hood up. I just cut the louvers that help remove the heat and not the one that feed air into the engine compartment. The amount of water is very minimal more likely the engine gets just a wet or more with water pushed into the bay through the radiator and fan when it is raining.
