Default Hood issue

Does anyone else have a shaky hood? Mine seems to move and bounce around when traveling at highway speeds. Both of the latches are tight and there is no movement on the firewall to hood latches either! Is this common on the JK's or should I take mine into the dealer? I am not really worried about it coming off or anything but its really annoying and distracting when I am driving!

Very common.
Do a search for the word flutter, or bounce.

Default hood latches

take the hood spring out. dont waste money on any hood latches. just make sure when you close the hood you do it lightly

If you still have warranty, there is a TSB on replacing them. I had mine changed out last spring and its been far better since then.

What spring and what is a TSB? Is that a recall?

It's not a recall. But can be done as a form of recall work as I recall. I am not sure if it only applies to in warranty vehicles or not. But they replace the hood latches with a newer design which is made of a different material.

I am honestly not sure how much removing the spring under the hood would help. My issue was wind for driving at freeway speeds got under the hood and would start to lift it. Which would cause this unnerving hood flutter.

welcome to the forum.

TSB is technical service bulletin. not a recall but rather a suggested fix to common problems sent by the manufacturer to the dealer techs. Unfortunately, not all the techs know about all the tsbs, so it helps to be aware of them when going to the dealer (if you do).

try the search function, as suggested, there are lots of threads on topic.

whn you open your hood you will see a large spring right in front of you, it is the spring that supports the hood when you release the outer latches. you'll see it.

Did they fix this problem for the 2010 models? I haven't noticed any problems with my hood.

So common that there are at least one or two new threads on this subject every month. Also search on "hood dance" or "hood lift". There are a number of fixes. I know that I've posted a complete wrap-up of the half dozen fixes and alleged fixes (not everything you're reading in this thread really works 100%) at least twice in the month of December. Please, rather than going through all of this again, follow the advice to use search.

One Search Result (the phrase "hood dance" in any post, listing titles)
