w-w-w-w-WHAT???
Plastic is a better heat barrier than metal and a 10 degree Fahrenheit drop in temperature for air inlet gives a 1% increase in power. I can easily believe you can get a 10-15 degree cooler air temperature at the AIT, and on the 3.8L motor you're looking at 3-4 hp tops.
Reducing under hood heat effects a variety of components, robbing power. Likewise other parts heat retention will increase performance, such as cylinders and exhaust.

push VS pull
Maybe instead of trying to force cold air in on top of the hood against rising heat you would be better off with an electric fan in the hood blowing the hot air out through a vent. Don't a lot of rock crawler guys put fans in the hood to blow air out when moving real slow to help rid hot air from under the hood.
Forward facing vents, actually SCOOPS, create HIGH PRESSURE areas that force air INTO the engine area and create a pocket and drag unless it is routed right into your two Holley 1,400 CFM double pumping dinosaurs.

If you want to really lower engine temps easy go get a nice aftermarket oil cooler and mount it up someplace you are not going to crush it crawling over rocks. The added capacity of oil plus the heat exchanger will provide nice stable temps for the engine. Porsche, VW, etc ran oil cooled engines like this for many years.
