First of all, awesome that you're making them. Secondly, I think if you're going through all this trouble AND using nutserts, you should make them with thicker steel.

Honestly after I cut it out, it's pretty damn sturdy. I might not be able to lean it against a tree, but I also don't plan on doing that..it sounds stupid I know. Also, I don't know how they'll turn out so I would rather mess up some $20 steel than screw up some $200 steel. I'll probably end up selling them if they turn out good enough and use the money to buy thicker metal.
Jeep funding has been cut off by my wife... I've spent this years budget already and it's only March lol.

I put mine on its side into a rock and it held fine. Imo the weak point will be the thin body it's mounted to.

awesome that good to hear. I don't think I have enough to make the side piece on the passenger side in 1 piece so It looks like I'm just gonna have to make it outta a couple pieces and weld them together.

That could be. Mine was comp cut and there is only maybe 2" of metal below my hardtop...

This was the start of mine before i trimmed it and finalized it. You can half ass see the front quarter where i started also.
