Default Hitch info

What exactly is the difference in number of pins and the electronics i always see hanging, I am just going to install a hitch so I can put a dirt bike holder on can someone give me some info thanks guys

The 4 pin connector gives you the trailer basics....Tail lights, brake lights and turn signals.
The 7 pin connector gives you all the above plus a 12v power lead, negative ground and control of electronic or hydraulic brakes built into the trailer if you also have a brake control module.
