Title should read hidden.

I did a lot of searching and decided to tackle the hidden winch. The jeep is a daily driver and hits the trails about once a month. I didn't want to add too mix weight to the front. Bought a generic plate and notched it out. Cleaned up with a grinder and gave it a few coats of rustoleum bedliner. For the fairlead spacers I welded on a few pieces of schedule 40 1/2 pipe.

Now for those of you that have done this.

1. Should I extend the spacer through the steel portion of the bumper all the way to the plastic?

2. Or should I cut them off on the back of the steel portion, drill a hole and add another spacer on the other side? I am thinking the bolt actually passing though the hole will give it a bit of extra strength instead of one long spacer.

Also looking to do the same, looking forward to following this post. What or where did you get your winch plate?

I will take pictures of my install. Think I have it all planned out. Have the day off tomorrow and have the day set aside.

I am in Canada but when I was in the US a few weeks ago picked up a Harbor Freight 12000 winch and generic plate. Cut it down and welded on the spacers.

Tore the winch down, re-greased the gears and sealed it up with RTV.

Finally got it done. Sold the badlands and grabbed a vr8000 warn. Fit perfect. Just have to put back on the bumper.

To hold the nuts while tightening I just cut a slot in the box end of a wrench to get it in the hole.
