Default HighRock oversize tire carrier

Has anybody used this? I want something I can swing open with the rear gate but don't want to get a whole rear bumper. It says it will take up to #200 and a 37" tire...I just want it for a 35.

My wife has the Highrock carrier for her TJ and it connects to the roll bar for support, I don't see how this thing takes any weight off of the gate.

I have seen a couple threads on this, and from what I have seen, it is noisy and people weren't too happy with it. One I saw was rusted out and he changed it out with a bumper carrier eventually.

I have this carrier holding my 35" MTZ on the back.

Mine works OK and my doesn't make any noise. I did notice it started rusting already (less than 1 year) so I'm going to repaint it with some Rustoleum or POR15 once the weather warms up.

I was also considering this option. I emailed them and asked how it eliminates tailgate sag as they claim. Here is their response, which I also posted on a similar thread elsewhere on this forum.

"The tire carrier takes the weight of the tire off of the tailgate. When the adjustable arm is tightened it pulls the top of the tailgate upward and to the right which takes the slop out of the tailgate hinges."

So, my guess would be that I would have to adjust the arm every time I opened and closed the tailgate, to keep it from rubbing.

WOW, those guys make no sense. Any fool can see the weight of the tire and the heavier tire mount will rest entirely on the stock hinges. They basically admit it when they said, "which takes the slop out of the tailgate hinges."

All they are doing is putting a bind on the hinge which makes it less sloppy for a short while then you need to re-adjust and repeat/repeat/repeat unitl the thing just falls off when you hit a bump.

I have a 37" KM2 on the highrock carrier and it it pretty solid. It's only there as a temporary fix until I get my swing-out. The tire doesn't bounce around nearly as bad as the 35's that I had on the stock carrier. I bought it used, they seem proned to rusting. I put a few coats of paint on it and slapped it on.

It still mounts in the same holes as the stock carrier, so the bestop guys are nuts, the weight is still on the gate.

So this is a bit of a dumb question, but how do either of these carriers take any weight of the tailgate? Is it just me or does this not make any sense?

Does it just spread out the weight?
