Default hemi conversion or turbocharger?

Should I put an aev hemi conversion on my 07 rubicon unlimited or turbocharge it? They both cost about the same and give a good bit of additional horsepower. I am looking for good horsepower for towing while giving fairly good gas mileage and good reliability. Thanks Guys.

I think you mean Supercharger

By the time "YOU" do a hemi swap I think you are into it about 10K+ and supercharging is what 5-6k?

If you have the change then I would do a hemi swap.

If you have the cash for a hemi swap, don't think twice about it. For those of us pulling change out of the couch cushions, a supercharger will work just fine.

I say HEMI 100%...DIY or not...I've had both the supercharger and the HEMI...the power from the SC it mostly high end and I had some problems from mine (computer/boost #'s/"limp mode")...I did the Hemi and haven't looked back...raw power from 1000 rpm and up...no dead spots or slowing on the highway...I love it...I paid $19,500 including shipping...I've seen it done for as low as $10,500 (this is the AEV kit and throwing the bad boy in there your self) PM me if you have any other question, hope I've helped

i'm just gonna cut and paste this here...someone asked me a while back why I got rid of my SC......this is what i told him

Don't want this seen as a hit toward RIPP at all, apparently most have been happy with there SC, just my honest experience

Glad to help...sure hope I can...SO HERE WE GO lol...

I had the RIPP SC...my experience was not delightful to say the least. Ripp claims that their SC will make 5 lbs. of boost during the "break in" period of 500-1000 miles of use and 10 .lbs after that....mine made 2-3 lbs...after 1200 miles of use the SC made 5-6 lbs of boost...and at that the engine sounded and felt like it was gonna explode. Also these boost measurements were taken at around 3500-4000 RPM...way higher rev than I will need power at. OK so during all of these measurements and test and tuning I was in DAILY contact with RIPP techs trying to solve the problem....they sent me new hoses...new fittings...and no improvement what so ever. The final straw was the MANY times when I went to "access" my power through the GO pedal, it would send my computer into "limp mode" meaning it won't rev past 2500 rpm's and no more than 40 mph. This happened several times even past the break in period. Finally it happened when I needed to merge in with traffic on the highway...causing me to have to pull into the emergency lane and turn the jeep off then back on again. Nothing is more embarrassing than getting your good buddy into the Jeep to show him the results of your $5,000 mod and for it to not perform.

Now the HEMI...twice the price if you do it yourself and 3-4 times the price for someone else to do it.....WORTH EVERY FREAKIN PENNY....nothing is more satisfying to look over and see that same buddy grabbing the door and dash trying to pull himself out of the seat because that is where the power threw him lol....there is absolute, no hesitating, raw power at every level of RPM's. With the automatic tranny you gain a gear, instead of 4 sp with OD, it's 5 sp with OD...very nice on the highway.

To sum up, the SC felt/sounded/and performed like it was trying to squeeze power out of something INADEQUATE and WEAK. The mini van engine was not made for boost...and the computers HATE boost.

RIPP claims to have V8 power........no my friend...a V8 has V8 power lol

I had my HEMI installed by Burnsville Offroad in Minnesota for $18,500 they also sold my RIPP SC for me.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with (hope I didn't talk your ear off lol)

Exactly. Just look at the power/torque curves for both engines and you decide which one fits your driving and towing needs better.

Also, "blowing" any engine is going to stress it more than stock and reduce the reliability or longevity of some of its parts in the process.

There aren't any current kits out for turbo charging, but you could either fab one up or have a shop do one. Probably cost more that the ripp kit though. And as far as a turbo having lag and not doing any good off road, if it is designed right you get virtually no lag.
