Default Help with wheels

I plan on running 285/70/17 now and going to 35/12.5\17 when they wear out. I know I need backspacing aroud 4-4.75. My question is what width do i need 8,8.5, or 9? Would a 9" wide wheel work with both these sizes and look ok? Both on/offroad.

Ideal backspacing will be 4.5. I ran 35x12.50x17 (2 sets) on 17x9 wheels with no issues.

Thats what i thought. I guess my main question is about the smaller 285/75/17 would these still perform and look ok with the 9" wide wheel.

I would stick with 8-8.5" wide rims. Many people run 35's on stock rims using spacers.
