I need some help with the LoD slider install. I have no directions and I don't want to mess it up. I don't really care to drill and tap my frame rails blindly without having some sort of directions. If anyone can help point me in the right direction I would be greatly appreciative. I would really like to knock this project out today!!!

I am going to be installing these tomorrow and was in the same boat. these JUST came out and they have not had time to do a write-up yet. look on this thread for some tips and call chris at LOD he can talk you through it. I am just hoping this rain will stop in time for me to do this! Good Luck!!

1. bolt up your rocker guard to the few mounting points that use the factory bolts.

2. place a floor jack under the rails, put a 2x4 long and flat wise on top of it (maybe several 2x4's stacked depending on how tall you are) and then lift the rocker guard up so that it starts to lift your jeep. stand back and verify that it is sitting level. i have a 6-speed and needed to add washers to where the auto skid plate was in order to get mine level.

3. after making sure everything looks good, use the rocker guards as a template to mark the holes with a center punch where you will need to drill.

4. if you are using standard drill bits, make a 1/8" pilot hole at all the mounting locations. (if you are using a unibit - you will need to remove your rocker guard at this time).

5. again, if you are using standard drill bits, you can now drill the into your frame. the rocker guards will help to guide them straight.

6. remove your rocker guard as it will be easier to tap the hole with it out of the way.

7. using the tap provided, tap the holes you just drilled out. make sure to take your time and reverse your tap periodically to clean out the cut material. using some cutting oil will help make this job easier.

8. reinstall your rocker guard and secure it to your jeep's frame using the hardware provided.

that should be it

 

Do you need a right angle drill to drill when the rockers are still on?

None that I know of. I just installed mine over the weekend using WOL's instructions.

 

Often times it is beneficial to follow Wayoflife's writeups. They are more detailed and user friendly than any factory instructions you will receive. I have used his writeups on more than one occasion and they are dead on. My .02.

Thanks dadgummit, I have seen that thread you posted and it is very helpful. I'm just very nervous about drilling that many holes and tapping all of them and have a few of them off by just a little bit will not be good. I'm sure I can do it, I was just hoping that there would be a more formal writeup with pictures during the install. Thanks everyone.
I will tackle this project eventually. Things have been popping up all around me and at all times. The last few months have been extremely hectic and I haven't even gone back to work yet. lol
