Default help on tires and rims.. 3 issues in 3 outings - 3 for 3

Still running my stock BFG mud terrian T/A's 255/75R17 and OEM rims..
2011 2DR Rubi D44's 4.10's Auto

First I always air down to 15
in the last 3 outings I am 3 for 3 in tire issues
First I partially lost a bead causing dirt and rocks to flatten my tire,, repaired.. Jeep On
second, Chiva Falls, I punctured the front passenger tire on the side wall...
got a 265/75R17 tire for a spare... Jeep on..
start looking at tires and rims...
today third outing in a row... Gordy's Hill NM punctured the front passenger tire on the side wall... again..
and then I also tore about a 3" section off the outer rim bead of the rim off (outter lip or whatever one would call it)... tire bead stayed on and I got home..

OK, so I know the OEM rims are not made for rock crawling and they are beat up pretty bad.. but the two places I punctured the tire surprised me... as it didn't seem like the rocks should have punctured the tires... no problem rocks are rocks..
Now I am looking at getting new tires and rims and want a good off road tire that can hold up to these rocks and still be good on the high way

I have thought about going to 15" ?? Discount Tire Direct has a selection of rims they guaranty the fit.. but I don't find a tire that gets me to a close 34"
the Tire I was looking at was the Nitto Trail Grappler size 285/75R17 which would give me close to a 34" or 1.7" bigger..
I am hesitant to go to a 35" since I feel I would need to put money into making the front suspension stronger.. which right now I can't do ... not enough $$$

does anyone have a setup they wheel hard with and are happy with as a highway tire also..
Rims and tires..

thanks for the input.

You either have really bad luck or pick horrible lines lol Been running 35x12.5x15 KM2s on MB72s all from discount tire for a year now with no problems. Been through mud, forests and deep snow up here in BC and rocks down south in Moab etc. Have run them from 4psi up to 28psi and never lost a bead and the tread lugs are still great shape at 70% left.

Ran lots of different tires before and in the end just get want you like and want. They are all so close to each other the only difference offroad is luck and the skill of the driver.

Yea,,, I think it's bad luck and shitty tires,,, I've been told i pick very good lines...
the first puncture occurred in an area that wasn't technical. I guess the rock was more like an ice burg...

anyhow thanks for the reply

BFG and GY kevlars are the 2 strongest sidewall tires.

BFG mud terrian T/A's is this the same BFG tire you talk about or is it a different BFG...

How are you proving this? I personally dobt have these tires, but ive seen threads with all kinds of things puncturing there sidewalls... More than most other tires.

Honestly you need a pssr or someone spotting you. If you're constantly jamming the pssr side wheels like you mentioned. Yes BFGs have soft sidewalls and have never been known otherwise. I've had guys on runs with me get cut sidewalls with em and flats. I run KM2s and haven't had a flat yet, knock on wood. But if you're running the right side wheels into objects hard enough to break off the outer rim bead, how do you expect the sidewalls to hold up? Going to a 15" will give you even more sidewall to deal with.

No way you're picking good lines if you're breaking the rim. Don't blame the tire's for poor driving habit's.

Join the club. Those stock BFGs suck as I too suffered multiple sidewall failures as have many others running those tires. Over my 25+ years of wheeling I have never experienced the number of tire failures like I have with those tires so it has nothing to do with bad driving and poor lines like some here suggest. Currently running 35" PC Xtreme MTs on a 15" wheel and couldn't be happier now.
