Go with the 35s! I have 35 toyo open country's on my 2dr with 3.73s and a 6 speed, and it drives great! It's not fast, but it's a jeep. It's not supposed to be fast!

If you are considering 35's then go for it and don't look back. That's what I did and very happy

Not really much more if he decides to get a heavy 33 such as a MUD COUNTRY which weighs 64lbs as opposed to a MTZ 35 which weighs 68( which is what I just did runnin 3.73 gears on an auto) not much diffence at all.

I went with Falken 285/70R17 because I did not want to spend the money to regear. I have notice a little less power put not much. I have a four door with 3.73 and auto. They measured out to 32 on the dot which is 1" bigger than what I had.

I have the 35" KM2 and love them. The down side is that I had to re-gear to keep decent freeway manners. I have an 09 Unlimited Auto with 5.13 gears and love it all day long. I am getting 15-16 mpg with mixed driving.
In regards to all the opinions 35" tires look great on Jeeps INMHO. And at the end of the day either way you are moving in the right direction, BIGGER TIRES!!

I remember when a 33 inch tire was big. Now, it seems as everyone wants a 37. I had 33's on my CJ then up'ed it to 35's (just like everyone is saying above this post, you'll want the next step bigger). I now have 35's on my JK and they work great! Although, I'm sticking with the 33 in the future. For what I do, and want to do, the 33 inch tire will be good for me. Not to metion the suspension cost is less. I remember how much fun it was tring diifrent obsticals with the 33's.
If it's weight your looking at 33's is your answer. They will be better on the street and handle better. Better MPG's also.
If it's the cool factor your looking for, go with 35 or 37. Plus, they will allow you to get over some big rocks, deeper mud, or whatever your offroad passion is. I'm getting more into the Expo stuff so, 33's is good for me.

Just got mine and love them. The stock tires are so close to a 33 I couldn't justify going smaller than a 35. But the rocks are big here in CO.

I just put 33s on and they look fine with my small lift and 4 door. Money was the major factor for me. In my case, the Falken 33s were not only smaller but also a lot lighter than the 35s. I'd have to regear, buy a new tire carrier, and be prepared to beef up and/or replace other suspension components eventually. Some sooner than others.

When this is no longer my daily driver and becomes the weekend toy (probably about the time I'll be ready for tires again) I'll go with at least 35s and do all those things I should do for a regular off-road vehicle. Of course, I will probably do some of them along the way in preparation for this.

Going from a "C" rated 33 to an "E" rated tire in a 35" and steel rims makes a huge difference and especially if you have the heavier Unlimited. I would recommend a regear with 35's pre 2012 Pentastar

@OP- lucky you have 4:10s, so regear is personnal preference with either 33s or 35s. Just turn overdrive off and think Jeep, not Vette while driving. With 35s a tire carrier should be factored in. Your choice of 15 wheels dramatically reduces the price of tires. When I priced 33/35 MTR/K the difference was small, so I went with 35s on my auto with 4:10s. I have always drove with OD off, even with the stock setup. With 33s at 70mph - RPM ~ 3000: with 35s - RPM ~ 2800.
