Hey guys. I just bought a 2011 Rubi unlimited and after many years of playing and toying with my 05 TJ I find myself back at square one.

I have to buy new winter tires right away and I was thinking that rather than buy the tires now to fit the stock suspension only to have them look too small once I buy a real lift, I could put a BB on now and see how I like it and what lift I will go with down the road.

I am looking at either the Goodyear Duratrac or the General Grabber. Both would be studded as it will be a dedicated winter tire. Sizes I am considering are
-305/75/16
-315/70/16

And these are the BB I am considering. Please help a new JK owner out wit your experience and opinions.

I have been reading countless threads in the past week and would like some help and clarification. Thanks.

305's might look small with a 2.5 BB. I'd go with the leveling kit. For 315's, go with the 2.5 with shock adapters (the rubi shocks will hold you over for a while). Keep in mind with 2.5 you MAY find the front end feels a bit more flighty than stock. If you know you will go up to a more complete lift down the road, I'd probably just go with the leveling kit and 305's and start saving for the real deal. I've run Duratracs and I liked them in the snow. The sidewalls aren't the strongest but that won't matter in the winter.

I would go with the TF BB with the shock adapters. You Rubi shocks should be good enough. As for tires I would get the GY Duratracs in 315/70/16. They got good reviews in the snow and I like the aggressive lug pattern when comparing it against the Grabbers...

BTW, welcome to the forum

Thanks for the welcome and the replies. I am leaning toward the duratrac's as long as I can get them at a decent price.

Oh my....... decisions, decisions.

What is the difference in the TF kit with the adapters and the one without? There is a big price diffenence. If I go with the kit without what will that do/change?

you could blow out your good rubicon shocks! rubi shocks are high pressure gas monotube shocks. a good aftermarket monotube is over 100 bucks in canada. buy the TF BB with adapters. you will like the look better than the levelling kit and its not much more. 2.5 BB is a pretty complete kit as well for the height. i have duratracs, on my 2nd set and as of right now it will be the third etc etc. UNLESS you plan to rock crawl, get something with a 3ply sidewall

Thanks man. I was wondering why the hell I would spend that much more but a blown out shock would suck.

I was looking back at pics of a Tacoma I use to have with grabbers. They don't look as aggressive as I remembered. I'll be going with the Duratrac studded if I can get them.
