Default Help diagnosing a problem

I noticed yesterday my jeep feels different when turning. The best i can describe it is like this: have you ever had your 4wd engaged on a hard dry surface and you get that wheel hop while turning? (No my 4wd isn't on) That's kinda what this feels like, although more subtle. I feel it more on right turns than left. If it matters, I'm running 33"duratracs, stock rims with spidertrax spacers, and a 2" budget boost. I've had the set up for over a year problem free. I'm gonna take it in to get checked out probably tomorrow but I'd appreciate any advice you guys can give

I don't hear anything from inside. Gonna crawl underneath and do a visual inspection today.

The steering wheel oscillating back and forth a little when turning in 2wd can be an early sign an axle u-joint is beginning to seize.

Ok. Any suggestions to keep in mind of a good replacement u-joint? If I remember right, the stock ones aren't greasable. I'd like to change that.

Greasable ujoints are weaker (in theory) than non-greased units since the centers are drilled out for grease passageways.

Really? Hmmm...so what's the general recommendation? Greasable or non-greasable?

That could be true, but I'll bet we see a lot more u-joint bearing failures than broke X's.
You can drill the end caps and install your own flush fittings. I've been thinking of doing that if I can't find greaseable ones when replacement time comes around.

It's mere theory- it would be tough to replicate 'exact' conditions to determine when they would fail but I would agree with Ron- most people will see the roller bearings turn to dust before breaking the center section.

Usually you'll see the outside arms of the cross break off and caps walk out. I was just bringing up awareness of a potential issue, albeit relative in risk to standard joints. I bought nongreaseable since they were what was in stock at the time.

My buddy took a look at it today and confirmed the passenger side u-joint is bad. I ended up going with the greasable ones from NAPA. The areas I wheel in are pretty sandy and the "sugar sand" in the NJ Pine Barrens gets everywhere. At least fresh grease can push some of it out...
