The spacers simply adjust the baskspacing...as they reduce the back spacing by their thickness.

IE: It will clear the same with spacers or new rims, if the BS ends up the same.

For a 12.5" section width tire, you want around 4.5 - 4.75" of BS...so a rim wiith the BS, or, a facory rim with 6.25" of BS and a 1.5" spacer, to reduce the BS of the factory rim to 4.75"....etc.

16 x 8 rims are a decent compromise between tire prices, street performance , and selection of off road tires for them.

What is the DD issue?

DD -- I was too lazy to write out Daily Driver. He wanted an aggressive looking tire but not too aggressive as it is his Daily driver. How to trade off aggression vs ride performance.

Pro-Comps are the LAST AMERICAN MADE off road tire manufacturer.
THEY ROCK.

I run there 35 x 12.5 ATs on stock 16" Alum. rims on and off road.
Some noise but I turn up the sterio so I can't here the sirens chasing me...
Good performance off road.

One word of caution tho. The AT doesn't do well truely aired down.
It is designed to need a fairly stiff sidewall to present the tread.
I usually run at 28/30 LBs as an all day thing offroad.
40lbs in front and 37 lbs in back on the street.
In short sections If it looks really "big" then I will air down to 20lbs.
But I air back up right away due to I am not rich and tires are pricey.

16" rims and 33 or 35 inch tires gives u plenty of rubber on the wall.
You want the rubber on the wall out in the dirt and rocks.

Also 16" rims will have no issue for sure fitting over break calipers.
Some 15" rims do NOT fit.

Whatever floats your boat.
It's all good.

Pro-Comp is the LAST AMERICAN MADE off road tire manufacturer.
The rest are ALL Chineese.
Seriously.

As 90% of ALL tires are now Chineese.
Think about that next time you are out job hunting...

I'm looking at the new Baja ATZ Radials and the Classic II Wheels.
That's the exact setup I ordered from a local shop a couple weeks ago. The tires look great and I'll be trying them out offroad in a couple weeks. But the classics didn't fit. The shop ordered the 16x8s that were called out in the MT wheel guide. It cleared the calipers fine, but there's a metal clip between the calipers and wheel hub up front. The back of the MT wheel hit this clip. He returned them and got me the pro comp 1069s which look just like the classics. The back surface matches up perfectly with the wheel hub and I had no issues. If you use spacers, the clip wont be an issue, but with 4 inches of backspacing already, there's no need for the spacers if you stick with 33s.

Default BS (back spacing)?

I've driven bimmers for the last 12 years and this is my first Jeep.

Can someone educate me on spacers, back spacing...

A spacer is exactly what it sounds like, it puts your wheel out another inch or so, that way your wider tires do not rub.

              Spacers are sold separately

Backspacing is just the amount of the wheel that is behind the bolts, so pretty much, the less back spacing you have the farther the wheel sticks out.

I have to second the recommendation for Cooper STT's. Like the look better than Toyo's and they are pretty quiet on the road. Know someone who has 70k on them. He goes offroading quite a bit but this is also his Daily Driver.

Any way to pre-determine how much spacing is required? Any documentation about the downside to spacing the wheels out?
