Default Help: 15's vs 17's on Baja MTZ 35s

I've called different shops, 4x4 retail centers, etc and gotten different answers to one simple question: Is there a problem with running 15" wheels on 35" tires?? I searched the posts/threads on here and I've seen different answers on this forum too... I know there's a gallery of 15's on 35s but again, I've heard that this kind of setup can cause problems?

I think that different shops have been trying to get more money by selling me bigger wheels, telling me that running 15" wheels on 35" tires causes 'issues.'

Thanks a TON

Mike

A shop also told me that I can run 17" x 8" Eagle wheels on the 35 x 12.5 Baja MTZ with no problems, because the actual width of the wheel measures to be 8.75" ... Anyone know about this?

You can run 15s with 35s with zero issues. 17s will perform better on road because you have more rim and less sidewalls so the tyre feels stiffer. Offroad the 15s will peform better because you have more sidewall and and less rim to damage on rock. Plus 15 inch tyres/rims are a lot cheaper than 17 inch tyres/rims.

If only there was some third option that would act as a compromise between 15 and 17. You know. Something in the middle. (Hint: (15+17)/2)

35s and 15s is a common wheel and tire combo. There likely thousands of vehicles rolling down the road running that hardware right now.

You may have to grind a bit to get 15s on a JK. You may already know this.

The tires can be so much cheaper that you can pay for cheap(er) wheels in only a few sets of tires. A agree that the taller sidewalls can be a little more bouncy. Some like this on a lifted Jeep or truck because it adds a little extra suspension type action to the ride which might be stiff.

'' Try 16s they fit w/ no clearance problems (break calipers) and the cost of tires and rims is still low

The 15/35 is fine, as said above about the pros/cons onroad vs. offroad.

If you choose to go to 15's though PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE test fit the rims BEFORE mounting them up with tires. It could save you some money and a ton of frustration. Not all 15' rims will fit. (especially the fronts, there can be a caliper clearance issue on some brands/sizes/offsets.)
