Headers?

JPop, you know we've been through this discussion before, I had mine installed without the tune first, drove it for about 4 months before I got the tune installed. The dyno numbers match the seat of the pants analysis, and it is significant with only the headers, and again with headers and tune. Also, I've had it installed for 1.5 years with no plug wire issues (stock wires still installed). I do agree the under hood temperature is hotter than before, but I got 1.5 years with no issues at all, and very significant power gains. Also, although I haven't seen all the posts about them, I've never hard of the RIPP headers melting wires, usually they are associated with other brand headers.

Out of the box RIPP long tube headers will move peak torque to a lower rpm, it's what long tubes do. That's a great thing as most of us aren't cranking at higher rpms. A tune that insures you aren't running lean from better cylinder evacuation is a great thing as well, lowering exhaust gas temperatures which also reduces under hood temperatures.
I've had headers on my JK since 2007, with no melted wires and bumped my octane to deal with running lean. Modest gain in power, better gains in efficiency. Had the RIPP headers been around then I probably would have bought them and I don't begrudge them because I don't own them. The rest of the information I provided promotes what headers bring to the table, what to be concerned with and how to make these products work for you.
A custom tune is a major portion of getting long tubes to work for you, and off the shelf programmers aren't going to get the job done, while also likely leading to issues. Then you have the net gain issues with what headers bring to the table with a custom tune versus what the out of the box programmers/tuners with the stock exhaust bring. What's attributable to the tuner, and what's attributable to the headers.
Again, RIPP has a good product here and I have an appreciation for the work they put in to get the most out of them. IMO, the headers and custom tune are inseparable and the baseline for what the headers bring to the table should be starting with what the DiabloSport tuner brings by itself.

I took my buddy for a ride yesterday and had not told him I installed the supercharger this weekend. I got on it coming out of the gas station parking lot and his exact words were "what the hell did you do to this thing" as he reached for the grab handle. Yea, it is worth it.

Can anyone confirm that the Predator tunes that come with the RIPP headers work on a 2011? I ordered their kit with the Predator, the box showed up without the Predator and I'm wondering if I should argue for the Predator to be shipped to me or for a refund of the difference in the price of the kits if the Predator doesn't work with a 2011 anyway.
Side question that might determine whether or not I return the whole thing: Am I going to run lean with no tune and the RIPP headers?

I asked my dealer, they do alot of after market mods, about the RIPP long tube headers on my 2011 and I was told they are having problems getting them to pass emissions. Something about the oxygen sensors throwing codes.
Anyone else having this problem? It is an issue in MD when you get emission tested every 2 years.

When RIPP posts 07-11 as the model years for the pack with the Predator on their site, I would expect the *entire* package to work on the 2011s. If not, and I'm going to have problems without the tunes, the whole thing is going back.

Well I hate to say this but you might throw an error code that has to do with your cataylist. Mine did when I first installed them. I know there are several other guys on this forum that have 2011 JKs with Ripp headers. I want to say I have heard them state no check engine light so far. Hopefully they will speak up. I thought it was common knowledge that no tuner has cracked the 2011 PCM codes but I can see your point. Someone may not know that and get caught in your situation.

I was talking to another guy with a 2011 and I thought he said his kit came with O2 sensors. Did yours? Maybe I misunderstood him but I know he said that he has 300 miles on his headers and no check engine light. Without a tune.
