If you're at all a craftsman, don't spend the money buying a hoist. My dad and I spent a couple of hours max building this pully system and it works perfectly. Just hook the hooks to the detached jku top and crank it up.

Garage isn't an option for me so I Made this. Works great only take me like 5-10 min to take the top off

Default My DIY Hoist System

I needed to keep myself busy while I wait for my new 2015 JK to arrive, so I thought I would build a hoist in advance. I also wanted to share the build with those looking to do the same thing so I shot all the critical steps as I went and put it all in a PDF file. Just go to this link.
