With a couple of cut to fit pieces of 2x4, hooks, pulleys, and rope,, you can make it happen! Thats what I started with,, then I simplified it even more with a few motorcycle tie downs. Sorry I don't have any pics,, but this is the perfect do it yourself project!

I went with the Harken because of my ceiling height. I had a Lange, but with my 9' ceilings, the top hung just low enough that I couldn't back the Jeep under it, which defeated the purpose. So I sold it and got a Harken, which I can pull almost all the way to the ceiling, and now I have room to back my Jeep under it. I would definitely recommend it, especially if ceiling height is a potential issues.

There is a way to use the Lange hoist it requires you to mount the lift on the wall instead of the ceiling. We installed it in my friends garage that way and it works great. I have the Lange but with 12' ceilings I mounted mine in the ceiling.

I had mine like that, but the pulley block that hangs down from the center, added 6-8" to the length and was just enough I couldn't fit the Jeep under it.

Seems like the one we installed at my friends came with an extra pully so we could have the top hang from the small pully and install the pully block closer to the motor by the stop block. I will have to see out of my own curiosity.

To bad it didn't work out for you. I guess it can't work for everyone.

I made my mine with pulleys from Lowes, air cord I had, and a $20 cable puller from Harbor Freight Tools. There are 4 pulleys over each corner of the hardtop and then there are two pulleys bringing the cables to one point, so all corners are pulled at the same time. From this point it attaches to a 2 to 1 pulley system where it eventually attaches to the cable puller. You could do without the cable puller and just use your hand, but I wanted a way to walk away and align the top before putting it on the jeep.

What are all the black pieces under the top? Mounts for some type a roof rack?
