While hand throttles on a stick can be helpful (I have one on my TJ), I find that actively using the hand brake can work just as well if not better in most situations.

I would like one for two reasons, and I can think of three situations where it would be handy.

Idle up when winching. I haven't seen a current output curve, but most alternators put out more current above idle. Some theories exist that the alternator cools better when it spins faster too.

Idle up when using OBA (air compressor). OBA systems pump faster when they spin faster (to a point). I don't have OBA.

Idle down when crawling in an auto. If the "magic box" can idle up, I hope it can idle down too. In 4 low I have to use my brakes on technical sections to fight my auto pushing me faster. A steady low idle of 600 rpm would help.

The wiring diagram for the APPS (Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor) looks pretty simple:

Just a couple of variable resistors with 5v feeds. Not sure why there are two, maybe redundancy/safety sake? Should be easy to unmount your accelerator pedal from the firewall and take a gander. A quick investigation with an ohm meter will tell you what variable resisters you'd need to get to mimic it.

I'm not sure I'd need it for driving purposes (I use the clutch pedal+throttle pedal+hand brake method), but I think it would be nice to wire a switch to the dash with a couple of fixed resistors for an "idle up" switch. Something that would raise the RPMs to 2k-3k when using OBA, etc.

Seems like you can rig up a cable from the hand throttle down to the pedal itself and work it that way.

By the way, the accelerator assembly with the sensor in it is $68, according to my local dealer. Could modify it to work, but you'd need to wire in a switch to go from one throttle to the other.

That schematic is actually wrong. The pedal has 2 hall affect sensors built in that generate 2 voltages, one have the other. .2V to 2.2V and .4 to 4.4V, idle to wot. Off Road Engineering is coming out with one soon.....

Cool. I wonder what that will cost
