Something like a brush guard to protect the grill? If so, yes you can get them. There's one from JC Whitney (search garage pro on here) and the MBRP light bar would probably keep some stuff from bouncing off the grill. Both will allow you to keep the stock bumper. A mod here, armycop, had a great setup with the whitney and an olympic bumper.
As far as importance goes, if you're wheeling through a wooded area, it could save you some dents from impacts with limbs sticking out. A very stout one can help protect the front/radiator in a lower speed rollover by hitting the ground and taking most of the shock rather than the hood. A bolt on to the stock bumper probably isn't gonna give you that protection. Maybe the whitney if you're lucky, but not the MBRP.
