Default Grease on Drive Shaft

Tore my boot on the front drive shaft. Gonna keep the grease to it until I order a new one. What type of grease is used for this?

the slip joint boot or rzeppa joint? If slip joint you'll be fine for a long time. If rzeppa at the t-case side, you are on borrowed time.

Sent from some string and a few tin cans.

x2

You'd be surprised how long the stock shaft will last if it's just the slip boot. If it's the rzeppa.. You really don't have time to wait.. Unless you just remove the d/s. Then you have all the time in the world

Then you've got some time. Mine was torn for over a year. Check your rzeppa joint. Is be willing to be that if you wheel your rig and disconnect, you've probably torn/worn it out, too. That's the one that is a ticking time bomb.

Bad rzeppa joint:

It was shortly after I installed my RK 3.5 mid arm kit and fox shocks. I ran out for a test. Disco'd and first ditch I passed over causing a decent amount of flex... torn. I guess it caught on something on the frame of the Jeep. What causes the rzeppa boot to tear? Does it catch on anything?

Excessive angle/stress.
The slip boot is torn hitting the crossover. Keep it clean .. Maybe a blast of fluid film to prevent rust.
Flex out the front end and see where the shaft hits.

Hitting the crossmember skid is common, you can trim it where the shaft hits or add some washers to lower it a bit. And when flexed, check the corner of your auto tranny pan. A few people have smacked the driveshaft into it hard enough to dent the corner or split the seal.

Or you could just buy a thinner aftermarket shaft.

Which with 3.5" of lift you definitely should do once that Rzeppa joint goes. It's not designed for those kinds of angles.
