Gorilla Guard Wheel Locks
#11
Thanks you for all the replies, guys.
Part number 61681B5 is the Gorilla Guard w/ spinning sleeve in 1/2" threaded Acorn - which is what I need. Took some digging to find that part number, but I couldn't have done it without all of you!
edit: That's the part number for the set of 5, that is!

What's the difference between the one just above:
http://www.brandsport.com/grla-61681b5.html
and the one at Quadratec:
http://www.quadratec.com/products/15007_03.htm
As far as security goes?
They're the same price....just wondering if it makes a difference if one is at the local shop, and the other isn't?

The Brandsport link ( which is what I found as well ) has an internal spline with a spinning sleeve.
The Quadratec has an external spline.
Basically.. with the second one, you stick a custom 'socket' over the entire lug and the pattern is specific. You twist off, and you're good to go. Problem is, I can get yours off if I use a vice grip or hammer a socket onto it.
With the first link, there's a spinning sleeve over a tightly fit internal spline.. meaning I stick my 'key' inside the sleeve and turn - if you try to vice grip, all you do is spin the sleeve.
Obviously, the spinning sleeve set up is more secure. Still not FOOL PROOF. But even more of a deterrent than an externally splined set.
(Yay! Despite being the noob, I contributed to the thread! )

The part number I listed above is correct - it's the part number for the acorn style 1/2" gorilla guards with spinning sleeves, with a suffix on it signifying it's a set of 5. mine are shipped and should be here early next week.

I JUST got the set of five locks/1 key from Brandsport - took like 3 weeks...
I have to say though, these things are works of art....so shiny.
Shoulda asked for the extra key though too....doh
Yeah - the Quadratec ones are an older design, easier to get off...these...the outer and inner shaft spins if you try to vise-grip it, etc....the key locks the inner to the outer shafts....way harder to get off.
I like'm.
(I will put the regular nuts on when offroading....the odds of dropping that damn (1) key changing a spare in a rock pile is scary)
