Default Is this a good price for gear install?

I got a quote for a gear install for my 2009 JK with auto tranny and wondered what you guys thought of the price. The shop is very reputable so I don't mind paying a little more but have no idea what I should be paying. Quoted me $1700 to go to 5:13's and that includes gears for front/rear, install kits, gear oil and labor. Let me know. Thanks

To me that sounds $200-300 on the high side.

I believe SoCal has above average labor rates, and the quotes I got were in the $1300-1500 range from both 4WD, and regular transmission and diff shops.

hard to say for sure. about $1500 sounds right depending on where you live.

Got a ballpark quote last week from a recommended shop - $1000-$1200, and that is BYOG (bring your own gears).

What did some of you others pay?

Last week I spoke with Shawn (Sean?..Shaun?..I dunno) at Screamin' Lizard over the telephone and he quoted me a price somewhere between 1500-1600 out the door, tax included price. He asked me if I was a member on JK-forum before he quoted me and mentioned something about a special with axle gussets or something like that being thrown in. Don't know if the special was the gussets or a discounted forum price, but if you are close to SLC, I'd check them out. hawn was VERY helpful on the phone and from what I've read on this forum, their reputation speaks for itself. Something that might vary your individual price: what gears do you have on now? My Sahara has 3.73 gearing. I was told if you have 3.73 or 4.10, you don't need a new carrier to hold the new gears, but if you have 3.21 (i think, whatever is the next below 3.73) you'll also have to pay the price of a new carrier for your gears. This may be where your price difference comes in, I'm not sure how expensive those are.

Guess the price quote I received was pretty close considering where I live in VA.

Sounds just a tiny bit high, but if it were me, I'd happily pay a slight premium if you have a relationship with the shop and trust their work.
